Collection: Parosphromenus

Parosphromenus are tiny Southeast Asian gouramis known for their striking male coloration and delicate nature. They originate from blackwater peat swamps in Malaysia and Indonesia, where the water is extremely soft, very acidic, and rich in tannins.

They require unusually low pH conditions, typically between 3.5 and 6.0, with 4.0 to 5.5 being ideal for long-term health and breeding. Water must be very soft, often close to zero measurable hardness, with minimal dissolved minerals. Reverse osmosis or rainwater reconstituted lightly is usually necessary, as tap water is rarely suitable. Stable conditions are critical, as they do not tolerate fluctuations in pH, hardness, or cleanliness.

These fish are sensitive and best kept by aquarists prepared to maintain consistently soft, acidic water with gentle filtration and a low bioload.
