hippichthys spicifer (barbelly pipefish)

We are waiting on the exact name.  We will update the name when we figure it out.

These Pipefish are generally peaceful but should be kept in a species-specific tank or with other calm and non-aggressive tank mates.  They prefer a densely planted tank and occupies the lower zone of the aquarium.  They are very slow moving fish

They are currently feeding and loving baby brine shrimp.  However, make sure the flow is low or they'll have a hard time catching the baby brine shrimp or whatever food you give them. 

This is our first time with these speices.  Anh is keeping them with a little salt.  I(Henry) have them in 100% freshwater at the moment.

Basic Information

size: can grow up to 15cm, but they are long and skinny not necessarily big.

Temperament: very peaceful

Temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C)

pH: 7-8.4

TDS: 300 + (salt addition are useful)

Breeding: males carry eggs in their pouch and give birth to live young, it is not known if young require saltwater to grow into adulthood.

Pipefish are carnivorous and require a diet rich in live or frozen foods.
Feed them small live or frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and other small invertebrates.
Offer small, frequent meals to ensure they receive enough sustenance.
