Gymnochanda ploegi (“Dwarf Glass Fish”)

Gymnochanda ploegi is a tiny, transparent glass-perch species from the peat-swamp and forest-stream systems of West Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia, described in 2014.
Adults reach only about 2.5–3 cm SL, making it one of the smallest members of its genus.
Males have elongated dorsal and anal fin rays and often display subtle reddish or yellow hues, while females remain more transparent.
It inhabits soft, acidic blackwater with low mineral content, dense vegetation, and subdued light — typical peat-forest habitat.

Size:
Up to 3 cm standard length (rarely 3.5 cm).

Water parameters:
Very soft, acidic water typical of peat or blackwater.
pH 5.0 – 6.5
GH ≤ 2 °d
KH ≤ 1 °d
TDS 20 – 90 ppm
Clean, stable conditions essential — absolutely no salt.

Temperature:
24 – 28 °C (75 – 82 °F); keep stable and well-oxygenated.

Food:
Carnivorous micro-predator.
Eats tiny live foods such as micro-worms, daphnia, newly hatched brine shrimp, and small insects.
Once settled, may take finely chopped frozen foods or micro-granules.

Important note:
Very delicate and intolerant of poor water quality or high mineral content.
Provide gentle flow, soft lighting, and floating plants for cover.
Keep in peaceful groups (6+ preferred) to reduce stress.
Captive breeding is difficult due to small fry and specialized spawning behavior.

Tankmates:
Only very small, peaceful soft-water species — e.g., Boraras rasboras, tiny tetras, Kuhli loaches, small shrimp, or other calm micro-fish from blackwater habitats.
Avoid aggressive or fast fish and livebearers
