Gastromyzon scitulus

Gastromyzon scitulus Hillstream Loach For Sale | Rare Borneo Algae-Eating Freshwater Fish

Gastromyzon scitulus is a rare and highly sought-after hillstream loach species native to the fast-flowing mountain streams of Borneo. This beautiful freshwater algae eater is prized for its intricate spotted patterns, peaceful temperament, and unique ability to cling to rocks and aquarium glass in high-flow environments.

Also known as a Borneo hillstream loach, Gastromyzon scitulus thrives in mature aquariums with strong current, high oxygen levels, and established biofilm. Their flattened body and specialized fins allow them to glide across surfaces while grazing on algae, microorganisms, and biofilm throughout the day.

As one of the larger Gastromyzon species available in the aquarium hobby, Gastromyzon scitulus makes an excellent addition to river-style aquariums, hillstream tanks, and planted freshwater aquariums with peaceful tankmates. These active algae-eating loaches are both functional cleanup crew fish and stunning display specimens for nano to medium-sized aquariums.

Gastromyzon scitulus adapts best to stable aquariums with smooth river stones, driftwood, strong filtration, and cooler water temperatures. Supplemental feeding with Repashy gel foods, algae wafers, frozen bloodworms, daphnia, and blanched vegetables helps maintain vibrant coloration and long-term health.
