type locality Long AN
Imported in OCTOBER 8th, CURRENTLY UNDER QUARENTINE SHIPPING BEGIN ON THE 18th!
This species closely resembles that of Betta Imbellis but has a darker body and head which is why they are sometimes referred to as the "black imbellis." They can be seen as Betta Imbellis but without the facial iridescence giving it a classic black head. They originated in southeast asia living in still water marshes and ditches. Both imbellis and siamorientalis prefer warmer water. Like all wild bettas, their natural coloration is metallic green
- Body shape: Elongated and slender typical of wild splenden type.
- Coloration: Base body color is dark brown to black, often with iridescent blue scales on the operculum and fins. Males exhibit a distinctive red, crescent-shaped band on the caudal fin. The red bars on the operculum is distinctive in this species and is share by its relative Betta splendens.
- Fins: Caudal fin is round or crescent-shaped, hence the common name "Crescent Betta." Other fins are generally shorter and less elaborate than those of other Betta species. Caudal fins are almost exclusively roundtail.
- Habitat: Found in shallow swamp and marshes away from open water. Often on the margins of water bodies. They are very fond of rice paddies.
