ALL of our fish go through 2 or more weeks of quarantine before being sold. Quarantine period consist of medication to remove parasites such as velvet and ich.  All males come from the same lineage and are generally similar.

The Betta channoides, often referred to as the "Snakehead Betta" due to its large mouth and head resembling the Channa fish species, is a small but vibrant freshwater fish native to the Mahakam river basin in eastern Kalimantan, Indonesia.

They are a peaceful fish compared to their more popular cousin, the Betta splendens ( plakat betta fish).  While males will establish territories,  they typically don’t flare or attack other fish on sight.  This allows them to be kept in pairs or small groups, as long as there is enough space for each fish.

Here are some of their key characteristics:

Size: Up to 2 inches long

Colors: Males are typically a vibrant red while females are a brownish yellow.
Fins: Their dorsal fin is almost entirely red with a thin white tip. Their caudal fin (tail fin) may have a dark sub marginal band that doesn’t extend into the uppermost portion of the fin.

Temperament: Peaceful, can be kept in pairs or small groups

Diet: Carnivorous, eats live food like bloodworms and blackworms, but can be trained to eat frozen and dried foods

Habitat: Slow-moving shallow streams and pools with soft, acidic water that is tea-colored from decaying leaves.

Diet: Currently feeding on live foods but can be trained to eat frozen and dried foods.

TDS ~ 60 - 100 (can tolerate high tds water but prefer low tds water)

pH ~ 6.0 -7.0 (prefer softer water)

Breeding: Mouthbrooder

If you’re looking for a colorful and relatively peaceful Betta fish to add to your aquarium, the Betta channoides is a great option. Just be sure to provide them with the right water conditions and tank mates.

The Channoides have a more robust body than the Albimarginata and is more red, whereas the Albimarginata can be more of a burgundy to orange color. The easiest way to differentiate them is that the dorsal fin on the Channoides is all red with no black.
