Compared to other Licorice Gouramis, they identify from similar-looking Bintan or Harveyi type by having the characteristics stout body and parallel bands on unpaired fins.
Like all Licorice Gouramis, they can be difficult to sex but males have much longer and colorful fins and become intensely colored when ready to breed.
This particular Paros, has very dark almost black fins. Variation in coloration between the individuals is common.
