Nitrofurazone is an antimicrobial organic compound belonging to the nitrofuran class. It is effective against gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, particularly in topical application. Nitrofurazone is effective in a broad range of PH but is poorly absorb so does not work well to kill bacteria systematically.
Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside bacteriocidal antibiotic, effective against most gram-negative bacteria and against many gram-positive bacteria. Unlike Nitrofurazone, Kanamycin can be absorbed through vertebrate bodies and work systematically against certain bacteria. Kanamycin is also more effective against bacteria in a neutral to alkaline environment.
A combination of Nitrofurazone and Kanamycin offer a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
